http://www.nocturnemagazine.net/ Elvarhøi Fjellet Faller Aldri Folk Metal (Self released, 2007.) This band surprised me very pleasantly! Elvarhøi are very young group that comes from Norway and plays pure folk metal in the vein of… Well, I'll say it, in the vein of Otyg and Lumsk. So, as I've already said, they don't mix their folk metal with other metal sub-genres (which is very common thing in these days, you'll agree) which makes them quite a refreshment on present folk scene. Dominant in their music are male and female clean vocals combined with nicely composed melodies on flute and violin. When we put upon that folkish guitar riffs and occasional acoustic parts (and there is also always interesting mouth harp ;-) we get a veeery nice picture of this band. Btw, this is a second release of this material with three bonus songs in 36 minutes all-together during which there really is a lot of stuff to hear. Lyrics are written in Norwegian and they don't deal with standard "viking" themes (while, ironically, hordes of bands from the rest of the world don't take Nordic mythology out of their mouth) and translations of them are available on band's website, so is whole this album - yes, yes, whole album is very kindly posted for download, so if you're a fan of folk metal be sure to check this band out.
